The team comes first!

With such a beautiful goal, the junior women's national team from Great Britain is coming to Poprad. Led by head coach Sam Phillips, she told us something about the preparation and setup of the team from the British Isles.

What stage of preparation is your team currently in for the championship in Poprad? We have selected the team and are ready to fly to poprad in 2 weeks

Are you satisfied with the preparation so far? Yes we have had the last training session before the championships.

Is everything going according to plan? Yes definitely, we have a great team that are ready to give 100% for the games.

What is the main focus of your training in preparation for the championship – tactics, team chemistry, speed, fitness? A bit of everything, we have worked on systems, the team have a fitness training plan and team chemistry will continue on the plane!

What style of play do you want your team to present at the championship? We have a young fit team, and we will focus on attacking quickly and defending hard.

How challenging is it to put together a youth ball hockey national team in Great Britain for a world championship? Ball hockey has a small number of players in the uk, we have boosted the team with players from the ice hockey community that have transitioned seamlessly into ball. So a mix of experienced ball players and new from ice.

Is there enough interest among the players to travel to Slovakia for the championship? We have a squad of 20 players to include 2 goalies.

Do you already have a final roster confirmed? Yes.

Are you planning to play any exhibition or warm-up games before the championship? No.

Are you planning any activities in Slovakia besides ball hockey? No we don’t really have time.

Will we see a British victory at the World Championships in Poprad? That would be an amazing achievement, we would love to make an impact in the standings this year.

What are your team's goals for the World Championships? I want the team to keep it professional, they are representing their country in a sport they love. The biggest goal aside winning is having fun. The team comes first, placing the team ahead of individual needs, set world standards in best practice and maintain an attitude of winners, believe we can win from every situation.
