Slovakia’s U20 National Team Roster for the World Championship Announced
On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the management of the Slovak U20 ball hockey national team announced its final roster for the Junior World Championship, which will take place in Poprad from July 2 to July 6.
Head coach Michal Salajka spoke to the Slovak ball hockey portal hokejbal.sk about how the selection process unfolded:
“This time, it was more complicated because we had many injured players, which ruled out some who we had originally counted on. We also had several players decline to participate. In the end, we selected this group, and I currently consider them the best in Slovakia.
During the training camps, several players delivered excellent performances, but as we entered the final phase where spots were up for grabs, their performances dropped. Still, I believe the boys will repay our trust at the World Championship.”
The final roster was determined after Slovakia’s participation in the Országh Cup 2025, an international tournament in which the Slovak U20 team advanced from the group stage but lost in a shootout in the quarterfinals. Coach Salajka also reflected on the tournament:
“The tournament showed that the boys have a huge desire to fight, and the team bonded in the right way. However, we should have delivered better results and performed at a higher level, which I pointed out to the players. We conducted a thorough review with our observations, and I believe the players will take it to heart and show improvement going forward.”
The Slovak U20 team will have a final training camp this weekend in Skalica, which will include a preparation match against the U23 national team.
